A glimpse of hope

I was listening to the local radio and Tanya Chua, the local singer was on air and shared about how challenging it was at times as she went about her singing career. It was at the lowest state when she first got recognition for her works by the Taiwanese entertainment arena which gave her that boost of encouragement to move on.

Photographers alike as artists, we paint with light while singers paint with their voices, there are times when I shot so hard and could not get any form of recognition until one day, I was contacted by an ex colleague who is keen to use one of my images for their corporate website.

Looks like all my hard work are starting to pay off and gaining abit of recognition. That gave me the encouragement to work on and continue with the passion that I started more than 10 years ago.

To all the aspiring photographers out there, keep this going no matter how tough it gets.

Respect Your Photographer

I came across this photo on Jennifer Ellen's website and thought it's good to share along with everyone.

It speaks to me with a personal conviction of what I do tha brings me joy and satisfaction, no matter how challenging things can get.

9tro / Westlake Tyres Mass Drifts and Models 2012

Today's one of the first events organised by 9tro Magazine & Westlake Tyres where they have invited selected number of people.

Having the event held at a wide open space, it certainly was optimum for shooting both the cars and models who have been arranged for this event.  This is the first event I have attended, which is organised by Concept 35mm.   The location is well-chosen as it was off-site and had plenty of space for us to move about.

A combination of portraitures and drifts were done.  It was a good place to pit those skills as it's also my first attempt at the motorsports genre.

There was also an opportunity to catch these tuned cars in action as they drift through the tracks marked by tyres, cones and their team flags.

Wrapup was done nearing lunch hour.

BTI Consultants - Not About Work dinner@Equinox

I had the honour to photograph for a company at their business networking dinner, a private dining room which is held at the 69th level of Equinox.

It was an event where top management people from various industries rub shoulders and exchange contacts for business growth.

Though it was given in a short notice, I am glad this could be done, while still adopting to my traits: bold, quick, simple, minimal.

ANCM - Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

I'm pretty early today as I had a very minor eyewink the night before so as not to be late for today's event.

Been while since our group met up; Allen and Nicole are doing film today. I've not done film for many years so that might be a good time to relive it some day later.

It's the first time we're doing at this biggest wetland reserve locally; most of the previous events were either street shots or a bigger scale to an island off our main land. Smaller groups tend to have easier handling.

We have been blessed with good weather - all sunny, no signs of rain. The perfect light source for doing it all natural. Seems like there has been some recent renovation works hence several small barricades could be seen. Nevertheless, the important highlights are still accessible.

There's a pretty wide array of spiders living in these natural habitats which requires the right equipment to get the best shots.

We finished rounding up the area by 1:30pm. Rainstorm commenced while we were all well under shelter.

We'll all meet again for another outing!

Critics & Settings

I've been approached by budding photography enthusiast who have asked like "How do you find my shots?", "What settings do I need to use?" be it on a pro-sumer or dSLR.

For those who had sought my advice for critics, I always give a try to keep it simple while providing them some guidelines on what are the things to take note, especially the main and big question:  What do you want to tell your audience this photo?

About what settings to use, the best response I can provide them is to look out for what to take rather than being too focused on the settings.

Turn of the Tide

It was the turn of the tide today, however, not so for the positive.

A friend whom I had known 8 years ago where it had been mutually agreed to have me photograph her solemnisation had just informed that she had decided to go with another friend whom she regarded as her best friend.

Certainly it was a surprise, but I guess it's part and parcel of our profession that deals get won or lost.

The best thing I could do is to move on since the demand is still ongoing out there. I still sincerely wish this friend of many years a blissful life ahead with her partner.
