On-Location Bridal Theme: Teti

Today we have a master who was willing to bring us on-location for the training; since it was raining; I decided to take the wheel to get everyone to the venue.

Zamrud was the master who came with his assistant, Yarzid, and taught us the basis of guidance.  For myself, it was a re-sharpening of the skills that I had adopted and practiced all these while.

Weather was a little drizzly but we decided to do the shoot in the heart of Little India anyway.  Our model, Teti was very accomodating and we were able to achieve the shots well.

There after, we did a post-shoot review with some simple tips from Zamrud at City Square before we split up and called it a day.

Not alot of perfect shots but here's a couple:

On Location - Yukata Theme

Linked up via Zech for this on-location shoot, we are doing an on-location shoot on a Saturday afternoon. Weather looks safe for an outdoor shoot this evening.

Since the new flats are built up, we had to take a detour route to get to the exact location; it's quite a short walk fortunately.  Though the weather was tuned down, it was locked at the cooler climate.

Location selected and we decided to shoot in the "lily among the thorns" area, namely, the long grassy area before moving to the famous red bridge.  By the time our shoot was done, the sky light had fallen to darkness so it was time to move off.

Some extracts taken from the shoot:

Punk Theme: Rynx & Sabelle

Another on-location shoot organised with Zech today; this time, it's a little different.

Punk.

The weather was great and it was the first time I've met Sabelle; she certainly looks pretty young.  All well dressed and we are ready to go.

After the first round, we did for Rynx as she arrived at a later time.  Nevertheless, great weather still keep the shoot workable.

Here are some highlights of the shoot:

On-Location: Khym & Sarah

A series of 2 shoots were done today in the hot weather of Penang; the first on-location shoot done in a foreign country.

The first was for a cosplay theme called Natusume Yuujinchou which Sarah took the male lead and Khym took the female lead.  Some shots require me to be in the water but it's the first time I encountered a leech on my toe since I had to be in there barefooted.

After a couple of hours' shoot, switch theme and the gals went back to change into another attire.

The scenery had to be something which compliments the femininity side so I made good use of the garden, the garland of flowers growing around the framework near the entrance as well purplish coloured leaves of waist height bushes.

The shoot was over before dinner and we all headed to Straits Quay for some food and drinks while catching up.

Thanks once again to Khym and Sarah, and Sarah's sister, Hannah for helping out with some of the props!

Ais - Fashion theme shoot

Another opportunity to work with a great model Ais, who had been ever sporting.

Weather had turned searing in the outdoors so we had to move indoors for the rest of the shoot.  The common hall could be converted into a mini-studio with the right setup.

We had a great time shooting along with Leonard, Zech and Kean.  Thanks to Leonard for putting this together and Ais for being such a great model!

On location: Tampines Eco Green

Today's the first off-cam flash outdoor shoot with my exclusive model, Serene.  I'm minusing the 'personal salutation' (if that's a right decision) as I want to keep this journal professional.

Our location: the new eco park in Tampines where it's about 10mins' walk from town centre.  The nearest parking amenity was just across the road, so that didn't make accessibility an issue, as we have to make the best of shots while Serene's fresh.

We finally found our spot after the Forest Trial.  Wind is still a little challenge, so since I haven't made my sandbags yet, a plank of wood does the trick fine so as to keep that light stand in place.

Applying what I learnt in Zack's tutorial, flash will be set to manual; including the settings on my camera - the usual manual mode.

A couple of test shot were done before we started the actual shoot.

Everything looks great so far; just some tweaking on the flash / apeture / shutter speed while applying the Inverse Square Law.  Not forgetting, more guidance to Serene on posing is needed too.

Location shoot: Sengkang Riverside Park

Ok, finally we have a chance to do an outdoor studio shot.

With the wind still being a challenge, we managed to do some shots under shelter and at the floating platform.  What a cooling evening.  Although not all shots are perfect, I had managed to get the hang of it while taking at different angles, with a variety of lighting styles.  However, battery had complete depleted just in time as I experimented a few self-shot lighting shots...oh well, have to review the photos another day.

The next best option is to do indoors; all I need is just a little more space and a shorter ranged lens.

Baby's 1st birthday and flash photography

What did not tun out to me turned out to be actual; I became baby Amanda's 1st birthday's event photographer for the afternoon; there was a huge group of guests so I managed to capture the moments of her cutting the cake, birthday songs and group photos.

Next destination, Fort Canning.

The weather had been hot but we managed to do some practises with flash photography, courtesy of our unofficial "master", Allen.  Bounce flash had been improvised with a reflective interior of umbrella and the effects are amazingly good.

We had a little chatup after the shoot and learnt from Allen about the lost groups, which were unspoken in the news for those who ventured Mt Kinabalu, East Malaysia, which is also where he lived.  The place sounds pretty attractive as a guide needed to be booked 6 months prior to commencement of trip.

Some photo reviews on the event which I need to touch up on the bounce card on my SB-900 - Allen had given me his card ever since he lost his Fuji dSLR.

Woodlands Garden Park

A 20min drive took us to the quiet, yet nolgastic park which was surrounded by older flats; something which isn't seen much in modern Singapore today.

Weather is decently temperated and took some pics for dearie after gathering good composition from the surroundings. In view of the travel time and welcoming mozzie battalion, we had moved out after a year.

The photos are impressive especially so when taken in manual mode; a great improvement when I look back to the first photo taken. It warms my heart knowing that my partner likes them all and have posted a few done previously, on Facebook for viewing.
